Naomi Klein, the world-renowned author, and her partner Avi Lewis award-winning film-maker, will be coming to Powell River July 17th for what has been billed as a “conversation with Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis.” Murray Dobbin of Powell River, himself an author and journalist, will be hosting the conversation with Klein and Lewis about their research for a new film and book about how the climate crisis can spur economic and political transformation. They will also be talking about national politics and social change in a rapidly changing world.

The event is a fund-raiser for CJMP, Powell River’s community radio station.

Klein is the author of two global best sellers. No Logo, an expose of the marketing world, became a bible of the anti-globalisation movement. Her most recent major work was The Shock Doctrine—The Rise of Disaster Capitalism  which documents how modern capitalism takes advantage of crises to enhance the bottom-line of the world’s largest corporations. The books have been translated into 30 languages.

She and her partner Avi Lewis produced and directed the award winning film The Take which followed Argentina’s new movement of worker-run businesses.  Lewis has had various position with the independent Middle east TV network Al Jazeera and before that hosted two CBC political affairs–programs.

The event will take place at the Evergreen Theatre at 2:00, on Sunday, July 17th. Tickets now on sale at Breakwater Books, River City Coffee, and CMG Printing. Mark your calendars and watch for updates on the CJMP web site—www.cjmp.ca.
