Friends of the newly renamed Cranberry Community Hall are looking to an exciting future for this lovely old hall. Originally built around 1920, it was for many years the local pool hall, owned by Mr. Derton. After he moved business into Westview in the early 1960s, the hall changed personas a few times, from the  Jehovah’s Witnesses to Knights of Pythian and then in 2000 to the Unitarian Fellowship of Powell River. Since then, it has served the community by providing space for many neighbourhood groups; everything from flamenco and belly dancing to theatre for kids and local writers.

Good acoustics and cosy ambience make the hall a perfect venue for musical events. Cranberry still remembers those great coffee houses run by Sue & Chris. Many musicians have squeezed onto the tiny stage since then, keeping Powell River’s vibrant music scene hot and lively.

The hall has now entered a new phase of life as home of the Cranberry Community Hall Association.

The society is looking for members who want to join us in envisioning a way forward for this valuable community resource—and do the work to make it happen. Let’s get together for an appetizer-and-dessert potluck and start this exciting project! Give us a call at 604-414-0826 or email prbrown77@gmail.com.
